New music and library building

We were asked to provide a school development masterplan for Pinner Park Junior School. Temporary music and ICT teaching rooms were to be replaced with permanent accommodation. External play space was to be maintained in line with the latest statutory guidelines.

Our solution introduces a new music room library and ICT 'pod' into an underused lightwell at the centre of the building. The pod is designed to allow natural light into the centre of the school and to create a focus for teaching activity. Music is a specialist area at the school and it is appropriate that the library and music room form the practical and symbolic heart of the school. The design also rationalises the multiple levels within the existing school to create a fully accessible environment.
